What Sets Us Apart

Founded By A Scholar And Published Author

Beacon Street Lab was co-founded by Allison Adair, a professor of writing at Boston College and award-winning author whose work has appeared in Best American Poetry, American Poetry Review, and Kenyon Review, among others. She has been honored with the Pushcart Prize and a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant.

Allison brings her rigorous academic training and deep love of language to everything we do at Beacon. Our programs reflect her conviction that writing is not a mechanical skill but a form of thinking, and that every student, given the right guidance, is capable of genuine intellectual expression.

Our Instructors

Our instructors are selected, trained, and held to an exceptional standard.

Beacon Street Lab works with a carefully selected group of instructors with advanced degrees in writing, literature, and related fields. Many have taught at leading universities and are published writers in their own right. Beyond credentials, we look for something more rare: the ability to develop a student's thinking through writing.

Advanced Academic Backgrounds

Instructors hold degrees from leading institutions and have deep training in writing and critical thinking.

Published Writers and Scholars

Many of our instructors are published authors, researchers, or creative writers actively engaged in their field.

Experienced Educators

Our instructors bring years of experience teaching writing at the secondary school and university level.

Trained in the Beacon Method

All instructors are trained in our approach, with a focus on developing clarity of thought, structure, and precision.

What Our Students Are Saying

Thomas, age 16

"Beacon has completely changed how I approach writing. I’ve learned how to break down complex ideas, build strong arguments, and back them up with evidence. My tutor encourages me to ask tough questions and challenges my assumptions, which has made me much more confident in expressing myself, not just in essays but in everyday life."

Julia, age 14

"I never imagined learning to write well could be this much fun. We dive into lyrics, film clips, speeches, and even artwork. My tutor is always challenging me to see things from different angles, and she gives me thorough feedback on my writing so I know what to work on next."

Daniel, age 13

"At Beacon, it feels like every lesson is made just for me. My tutor really gets what I’m good at and what I need help with, and she gives me tips that actually make a difference. The mix of fun creative material and serious thinking exercises keeps it interesting, and I’ve gotten so much better at expressing my thoughts and ideas."
